Question: Blade & Shaft
blade and shaft just came out of the side of the engine while edging. Engine was still running fine so what holds that shaft in the clutch assembly? Should I start taking the bolts out of the clutch cover to see whats inside?
Hello dmlockwasher The drive shaft is just INSERTED into the neck of the clutch drum. It is not pressed in or bolted in. Yes, some kind of failure there. Be warned. There is a Torx 20 or Torx 25 screw down inside the neck of the clutch drum that is screwed into the end of the engine's crankshaft. It will be very tight, but can be loosened (if you choose to take the clutch drum off). The screw once loose, will remain in the clutch drum, that is the way it is designed. By the sound of your failure, disassembly is certainly required.
It is possible the end of the flexible drive shaft at the clutch drum end broke; they have been known to. Replacement parts for that are available.
I took the gear cover off. The shaft isn't broken. The bearing that the shaft slides through is fine. I found a flat thin washer on the top side of the large gear that the hole in the center has a d shape on one side. I don't find any parts of a broken snap ring in the grease and there is a thin grove around the shaft. Nothing is in the grease so what holds the shaft from sliding out through the bearing?
Is there supposed to be a snap ring on that shaft behind the shaft bearing. I see a part #530037625 listed in the picture. It has a flat space on the bottom of the retaining ring. Says the part is not available any more. I did not find this retainer ring any where inside the gear case when I took it apart, just a thin flat washer with that flat spot on the bottom.
I found the part #530037625 on e-bay. The guy had two.
Hi dmlockwasher. You are going to be able to repair it where it will stay in place then? I earlier has presumed it was a standard weedeater, not a Weedeater edger. Some allow edger attachments. I apologize for the oversight on my part. I saw the parts diagram earlier, realizing my mistake.
have wet plug and spark will not fire.
Hello urban There could be a few different things going on with your machine causing this problem. Did you TEST your spark plug with a spark tester? Otherwise, how did you test it? The problem will need to be diagnosed step by step using process of elimination until the probable cause is determined. Solving NO START problems on small engines over the internet can be quite a daunting task! Ask me how I know!
Question: Blade Size
Can you please tell me the size of this blade.
The Weed Eater 530095086 Blade is 8-1/2 inches long, 1-1/2 inches wide and the bore is 9/16 with one flat side.
Question: Weed Eater GE21 Carburetor
Has anyone purchased and replaced their original edger carburetor 530069654 with the 530071634 version. It looks a bit different and I wonder if it fits.
Weed Eater has just updated the carburetor for the GE21. You will have no problem with the new version part number, 530071634.
