Solved my issue
My Delonghi Magnifica had been making progresively louder mechanical straining noises until finally giving out entirely. I had removed the case and observed that it was the transmission motor that was making these sounds and concluded that the transmission needed replacement.
In a previous review, the procedure to replace the unit was outlined. This worked for me except that I needed to remove two screws to allow an obstructing part in the maker enough movement to enable the swap out of the transmission. It was a bit tight - patient force did the trick.
Once replaced and after cleaning out everything I could while I had the machine housing off, I daresay that the machine is working as new. Since this machine is 15 years old, I would be overjoyed if it lasted another 15!
I have the old transmission and upon inspection, cannot tell why it failed. I hate to just throw it away.

The transmission was not taking the difuser to the right location
1. Remove the 6 screws and remove the sides and back plastic covers. To make it easier, remove the water tank.
2. You will have to move the pump away in order to access the transmission. To do this you will have to remove 2 hoses and then pull the pump just to be able to access the transmission.
3. Disconnect the 2 cables fr
... Read moreom the transmission motor. Make sure you take photos to run the cables properly. You might have to cut the zip ties in order to free the cables.
4. The transmission has only one screw, located from the front of the machine. You have to remove the difusor to access it. Remove the screw.
5. Pull the transmission out. It will come easily if you cleared space.

In general my Magnifica Espresso Machine has 15 years and it is perfect, if you do regular cleaning, lubricating. I\'m impressed how easy is to de-assemble it. Most of the screws are the same to make it easier. I already replace several parts, always bought at the ereplacementpards.com.
