Product Information
Description:
This is a Rocker type switch that has internal terminals. This is a genuine Makita replacement part that is sold individually.

rnrnSwitches are commonly replaced parts in tools. A switch handles on/off and variable speed operations. They also have a role in electric breaking; they can momentarily reverse electrical polarity. Because switches use mechanical internals, they will degrade and wear out over time, eventually needing replacement. Some common signs of a broken or failing switch are as follows:rn
  • The tool has completely stopped functioning – it will not start. rn
  • The tool operates intermittently, requiring multiple tries to turn on, until eventually it won’t start at all.rn
  • The variable speed function and electric braking aren’t working properly.

Power on off switch was malfunctioning.
I removed all the screw's from the outer body and the four screws to the bottom vibrating plate and then I was able to separate the body to expose the inside of the electrical motor then very carefully I removed the switch and installed the new one and reassembled the sander. I also replaced the dust bag.

Basically the sanding disc needs to be pulled before you can take the housing apart. Once the sanding disc is removed pull the 4 screws and separate the housing enough to get to the trigger then just switch out the wires and put everything back together in reverse. Don`t forget to blow it out first, lots of saw dust you don`t think about inside.
It works fine now. Good Luck

Switch and brake were worn and dust bag torn.
Split the sander apart by removing the screws, made a minor modification to the switch by drilling two holes in the bottom to accommodate the wires (the switch received was for a newer model with different attachment points) which were not long enough to attach to the switch. Installed the switch and reassembled the sander with the new brake.

ryobi sander - bearing; makita sander - switch
Ryobi - remove screws holding bottom plate and replace bearing and dust shield.

Makita - remove screws holding bottom plate. Important - remove screw on each side of plastic piece that centers the motor. Remove the 4 screws that hold the two housing halves together. Unscrew switch terminals to remove wires and insert wires into new switch. On mine, I had to repair the insulation on one of the wires pinched by the housing. If you need to replace the brushes, this would be a good time. Reassemble.
