Product Description ?

This Trigger switch has 4 internal terminals. This authentic Milwaukee replacement part is sold individually.

rnrnSwitches are commonly replaced parts in power tools. A switch handles all on/off and variable speed functions. They also have a role in electric breaking; they can momentarily reverse electrical polarity. Because switches use mechanical internals, they tend to degrade and wear out over time, eventually requiring replacement. Some common signs of a broken or failing switch are:rn

  • The tool will not start when you use the switch, or it requires multiple tries to turn on, until eventually it refuses to start at all.rn
  • The variable speed function and electric braking aren’t working properly.

Took off the handle around the switch and removed bad switch. Connected new wires, put new switch back in place and replaced handle. This would have been a lot simpler if the new switch had some instructions included explaining that the replacement switch did not wire exactly like the old one. I went back to ereplacementparts website to see that other folks had the same problem. After that it was much easier.

    3. Cut two pieces of wire to extend the leads to work with new switch.
    4. Screwed in the leads to the switch and put back in saw.
    5. Tested the switch before closing up the handle to confirm switch was properly wired.
    6. Screw back handle onto saw.

This switch is slightly different than the original. The input & output terminals are in a different arrangement. That made this harder than it should be.

Searched online for instructions, found service bulletin 58-01-0753 from Milwaukee Tool describing installation. It can be obtained directly from Milwaukee Tool:

    Took apart the case
Be careful not to mix up wire connections obviously
There was an extra wire that went to the directional switch,so i just hooked it to a hot wire
I used round terminals to finish the connections because those screws were tiny.
Overall it was an easy repair.
MAKE CERTAIN you put the screws in and snug them as soon as you open the package .
it is a contact switch and there are small copper part that are loose inside the switch they fell out when I took the switch apart.
Turns out you don't have to take the switch apart but that is how the old switch went together
    hope that helps someone

After removing the handle from the Milwaukee Circular Saw the rest was easy! The new switch is wired differently though. Use a meter to reconnect the switch is my advice. The switch has screw fasteners instead of the (Push and Grab) style .which was a big improvement. I have had this saw since the very early 90 and I was pleased to find a switch!!! The trigger was not an exact replacement part. The wiring configuration was different from the original trigger. It had to be re-wired inside of the saw handle as two of the original wires were too short to reach the terminals on the replacement switch.

I removed the old switch. Unfortunately there was not an exact replacement switch. Found a switch for a newer model saw but had to rewire and add two short lengths of wire to make it work. Need to use a multi meter the new switch is wired opposite the old switch. Had to use a drill bit to modify the mounting hole to make it a little larger. Works great now

    Saw switch failed

    Joseph - October 19, 2019
    Tool Type

    Circular Saw

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

Screwdriver, Star driver, crimping tool for electrical connectors

    1. Removed star screws and nuts from handle and removed cover.
    2. Lifted out old switch and wires.
    3. Used a Jewelers screwdriver to push open wire spring contacts in old switch to release wires.
    4. New switch contact configuration was different from original switch so the neutral wire from the saw motor had to have a short piece spliced on to make it long enough to reach the side of the switch where it needed to connected. Used crimp on connector for this task. (There should be a warning about the connection points on the new switch not being the same as the old switch because had I hooked them up to the same locations it would have been a dead short.)
    5. Crimped on ring connectors on the wires that fit the screws on the new switch, which used screw connections instead of spring press in connectors like old switch.
    6. Connected wires to the new switch with screws provided.
    7. Installed switch on posts in the handle and routed wire into wire guides in handle.
    8. Replaced handle cover.

All our installation videos are created and produced in collaboration with our in-house repair technician, Mark Sodja, who has helped millions of eReplacementParts customers over the last 13 years repair their products. Mark has years of experience in selling and repairing both commercial and residential products with a specialty in gas-powered equipment.

This data is collected from customers who submitted a repair instruction after replacing this exact part. Customers can rate how easy the repair was to complete and how long it took. We aggregate this data to provide a repair rating that allows customers to quickly determine the difficulty and time needed to perform their own repair.
