Idler Pulley tension Spring broke for the drive belt

The spring attachment loop broke so I took a 16d 3.5\" Common Nail formed it into a \"S\" hook, hooked the spring 3 coils in and attached the other end of the hook to the point of the frame the original attached. Then I finished mowing the lawn and ordered a new spring. My temporary repair seems to be holding up and see no need to instal l the new spring until if or when this repair fails.
