    plastic slide switch was broken

    Kim - March 29, 2023
    Tool Type

    Grinder

    Difficulty

    Easy

    Time

    Less than 15 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver

    1. Removed the grinder wheel guard.
    2. Removed the grinder wheel.
    3. Back out four screws holding the gear assembly and remove the assembly.
    4. Back out one screw and slide the gear case assembly through the cord.
    5. Sanded the edges of the new plastic switch because it was too big for the space on the case assembly.
    6. Slide the springed switch link back and insert the new plastic switch and ease the switch link forward to encage the switch.
    7. Reassemble the parts described above.
    8. This was a Milwaukee 4-1/2" grinder and the switch was for this model, but the switch was a little too big to fit between the plastic guides molded into the case assembly. Also the replacement switch does not include the catch that keeps the tool running without having a thumb on the switch.

    Time

    15-30 minutes

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver

    1 Removed bottom assembly.
2 Removed top head and pulled out about 3 inches.
3 Unscrewed electrical leads that were attached to carbons(dont know if thats what they are called)
4 Had to use a small flat head screwdriver to gently press and push the trigger into place as thats how a second switch button was broken.
5 Put it back together (with no screws left over :-) )

Broke slide button, then part that activates motor.

    John - May 30, 2021
    Tool Type

    Grinder

    Difficulty

    Hard

    Time

    More than 2 hours

    Tools Used

    Screwdriver, Star driver, dremel

After several attempts to insert slide switch without removing armature failed, I had to use dremel to cut slot in screw that holds the entire brush units (2) on tool. This allowed me to use a flat screwdriver. I pried the brush holders up and after removing the 4 screws that held the head unit to the body Iwas able to remove the armature. This allowed me to install the switch button, then the piece that activates the motor. Replaced brush holders and assembled unit.
Worked perfectly. Thanks for having the parts to repair.
