1. First ran Marvel Mystery Oil through engine to clean up the valve stems if I had sticky valve stems.
2. Then checked valve adjustment, tested compression but then found out this engine has compression release in the valve train so I did a cylinder leak down test which showed good valves and cylinders.(A leak down test uses a s pecial gauge that uses a compressed air source of about 90 -100 pounds pressure and meters a specific flow into the cylinder from the spark plug hole while the cylinder is at top dead center and both valves are closed. A gauge then indicates how much air is leaking out of the cylinder. If the gauge indicates your engine has significant leakage you listen to the 3 different areas of the engine to determine where the leakage is occurring. (Crank case at the PCV valve or oil cap which would indicate bad piston rings, Carburetor throat which would indicate bad intake valve, or the muffler exhaust which would indicate a bad exhaust valve) NOTE: Even with a normal indication on the gauge there will always be some air passing the piston rings.
3. Next I removed the Carburetor which was relatively easy.
4. Cleaned carb, blew it out with compressed air.
5. Reassembled carb and installed on engine.
6. Changed oil, plugs, and air filter.
