Nailer: Leaks Air From Trigger

Can you hear air escaping from your nailer? It could be air leaking from the trigger. A nailer can drive a ton of nails in a days work, so it is no surprise that the inner parts wear and tear over time, and more frequently than other tools. If you suspect air is leaking from the trigger, check the o-rings, and seals.

Valves

When you pull the trigger it releases air driving the piston/driver assembly down on the nail forcing it into the material. If the trigger valve is leaking air it will need to be replaced in order for the nail gun to work properly. To replace the trigger it will be easier to do with the magazine removed. Next remove the grommet on the side of the trigger and drive the pin or pins out. Remove the trigger. Some trigger valves are threaded into the housing while others are held in place by roll pins. Use a wrench or tap the pins out depending on your models set up to remove the valve. Clean out the inside. Apply a very small amount of Vaseline to the O rings. Install the new trigger valve and reassemble. Reattach the magazine.

O-Rings

The O rings on the trigger valve prevent air from leaking out which can impact the performance of the nail gun. To inspect the O ring for damage and wear you will have to remove the trigger valve. To remove the trigger valve, remove the magazine to make it easier to access the valve. Remove the grommet on the side of the trigger and drive the pin out or pins out. Remove the trigger. Some trigger valves are threaded into the housing while others are held in place by roll pins. Use a wrench or tap the pins out depending on your models. Clean out the inside housing. Inspect the O rings for wear or damage. Replacing all the O rings is a good idea since you have the valve out. The O rings usually come in a kit. Install the O rings and apply a little lube on them. The lube comes in the kit. If you have no lube use a very small amount of Vaseline. Install the valve back into the nail gun and reattach the magazine.
