Chain Saw Parts: Vibrates excessively
If your chainsaw is excessively vibrating, check the following parts for damage: springs, bushings, cushions, and isolators. Springs
Depending on the model of chainsaw you own, your isolator could be a set of springs. These springs can stretch and break, which will prevent them from performing this function. It is important to check the function of these springs, as even though they can still be intact, they may have stretched to the point that they are no longer holding tension. In this case, as in when they are broken, they will need to be replaced to help reduce your chainsaw's vibration.
Bushings
If your chainsaw's isolators come in the form of rubber bushings, they can eventually wear down and become ineffective. If your chainsaw is vibrating excessively, you should locate your rubber bushings where they connect the engine to the handle. It should be somewhat obvious that the rubber bushing has worn down, and if you notice this has happened you will need to replace them.
Isolators
Isolators are springs or rubber bushings that connect the engine to the handle. If one fails or comes loose, it will cause a vibration in the handle. These typically take the form of a set of springs, rubber bushings, or cushions. Because isolators or isolator mounts are often made of rubber or thin pieces of metal, they tend to wear down over time. Cushions
The cushion on your chainsaw is simply another term for an isolator. As mentioned in our section on isolator diagnosis and repair, the cushions can wear down over time, and at this point they will need to be replaced. Once the worn-out cushion is replaced, the chainsaw should no longer vibrate excessively.
