Motors

If the motor is shorted out in your bench grinder, it can trip the circuit breaker of the power source and you will have trouble turning it on. The motor, which is connected to the capacitor, should be replaced to fix this problem.

Power Cords

The cord on your bench grinder works as a source of power and if it is broken or burned out, then your grinder will not turn on. To replace the cord, first remove the cord clamp by removing the retaining screws. Next, lift the cord and switch the assembly out of the handle and disconnect the cord from the switch by removing the screws. Once you pull the cord from the grinder, you are ready to install a new cord. Tip: make sure to trim the new cord wires before reassembling your grinder.

Switches

If the switch is broken, it will not allow you to turn on the appliance. In this case, you will need to replace it with a new switch. To access the switch and replace it, remove parts such as the handles and guards. To remove switch, place it in the off position and push forward on the switch lever. Now you are ready to install a new switch. For further instructions, follow the manual provided by the manufacturer and remember to unplug the appliance from the power source for safety.

Capacitor

If your bench grinder will not turn on, check the capacitor, which activates the motor to run with the energy it has stored in. If there is a failure or it is defective, replace the capacitor by removing the wires with a pair of pliers and reconnecting them to the new capacitor. Remember to unplug the grinder from your power source before installing this part.
