How to Replace the Tire on a DeWALT Portable Band Saw

Step-by-step instructions for removing and installing the tire on your DeWALT portable band saw.

Change the tire on a DeWALT portaband

Is your portable band saw's blade slipping? You probably need some new tires. The tires attach to each of the band saw's wheels (drive pulleys). The tires are made of rubber, which provides good traction to drive the blade. Over time, the tires will wear down from contact with abrasive metal shavings. The tires can also crack due to age.

Let's get started.

REMOVING THE TIRE

1. Remove the drive pulley.

a. Remove the (3) small outer screws from the drive pulley.

b. Remove the screw from the center of the drive pulley.

c. Lift the drive pulley away from the saw.

2. Remove the tire.

a. The old tire should simply pull away from the drive pulley.

INSTALLING THE NEW TIRE

3. Install the tire.

a. Align a few of the notches on the inside of the new tire with the tabs on the outer edge of the drive pulley.

b. Continue working the new tire onto the drive pulley until the remaining notches and tabs are smoothly aligned.

REASSEMBLING THE UNIT

4. Reinstall the drive pulley.

a. Align the tabs on the back of the new drive pulley with the notches in the sprocket. (It helps to have the sprocket centered as much as you can on the spindle before installing the drive pulley.)

b. Install the new drive pulley onto the sprocket.

c. Install the plastic washer onto the (center of the) drive pulley.

d. Install the metal washer over the plastic washer. e. Secure the new drive pulley with the three outer screws and the center screw.
