How to Replace the Heat Deflectors on a Weber Grill

Step-by-step instructions for removing and installing the heat deflectors on your Weber grill.

Weber genesis heat deflectors

There are two heat deflectors in the bottom of your Weber grill. They are made of steel with a durable porcelain-enamel coating on them. The heat deflectors sit just below the burner tubes. They have two functions. First, they deflect the heat back up toward the cooking surface. Second, they catch any grease or pieces of food that get past the flavorizer bars. The drippings will cook of the heat deflectors, creating flavorful smoke inside your barbecue. They can be removed, which makes cleaning your barbecue much easier. Eventually, the coating on the heat deflectors will break down and they will begin to rust.

Let's get started.
