Springs
A damaged, or missing, spring will cause the blade guard to move around freely. To replace a broken spring, you will have to remove the blade guard. To remove the blade guard, you will have to take out the guard link screw and the two screws on the mounting plate. Remove the center screw, washer, nut and small washer from the mounting plate and separate the mounting plate from the blade guard. Remove the damaged spring and install a new spring, making sure that the ends of the spring catch the tabs inside the blade guard. Reattach the mounting plate, making sure it catches the on end of the spring tab. Insert the big washer and screw on one side and then the small washer and nut on the opposite side and tighten. Washers
Washers
Missing washers, or damaged washers, can cause the guard to bind and, if missing, not be aligned with the blade. Remove the guard link screw from the guard and drop the guard down. Remove the two screws on the mounting plate. Inspect both sides of the mounting plate for washers and the condition of the washers. There should be one big washer behind the screw head and one smaller washer on the opposite side, behind the nut. If there is a damaged or missing nut, remove the screw and nut assembly and replace, or add, the needed washer and reassemble. Reattach the blade guard by sliding it over the blade, attaching the rear screw first and then the front screw. Reattach the guard link screw.

Plate
Plate
A worn spring plate can cause the blade guard to bind. To replace a worn spring plate, remove the blade guard link screw, located on the guard, and the two screws on the mounting plate. Set the blade guard aside. Remove the center screw, washer, nut and small washer from the mounting plate and then separate the mounting plate from the blade guard. Install the new mounting plate and make sure it locks into the spring tab. Reinstall the big washer, screw and the smaller washer and nut on the opposite side and tighten. Reinstall the blade guard over the blade. Tighten the rear screw on the mounting plate first, followed by the front screw and reattach the blade linkage and screw.

Linkages
Linkages
If the linkage is bent, or loose, it will impact movement of the blade guard. Make sure the fasteners are tight, that secure the linkage to the miter saw and blade guard. If the linkage is bent, replace it. To replace the linkage, remove the two fasteners securing it in place and discard. Install the new linkage and secure the fasteners.

Blade Guards
The blade guard protects you from sustaining any injuries. A broken blade guard can interfere with the blade and can also be dangerous while operating the miter saw. To replace a broken blade guard, remove the guard link screw from the guard and then remove the two screws on the mounting plate. Install the new blade guard by sliding it over the blade and attaching the rear screw first. Install the front screw and reattach the guard link screw.
