Jig Saw: Blade Falls Out
If the blade falls out of your jig saw, check the blade screw, blade clamp, and reciprocating shaft. Once you have the part nared down, use our expert repair guide to fix your jig saw yourself. Refer to your owner's manual for advice specific to your model.
Clamps
The blade clamp clamps the on the blade to secure it in place. To replace a worn blade clamp, remove the blade then take out the screws securing it in place. Remove the worn, or broken, blade clamp. Insert the new blade clamp and tighten the screws.
Screws
The blade screw secures the blade to the blade clamp. If it is missing, or has worn threads, the blade will fall out. Make sure there is a blade screw in place – if it is missing, install a blade screw by placing the screw through the blade and inserting it up into the clamp. Once installed tighten the screw.
Shafts
The shaft, or yoke, supports the blade. If it has sheered off inside the jigsaw, the blade will fall out and you will have to open the jigsaw to remove the rest of the shaft and replace it. To do so, start by removing the base and then open the jigsaw by removing the screws securing the case together. Locate the shaft and remove it from the jigsaw by pulling up to clear the connection point from the face of the gear and then pull out. Install the new shaft and make sure it looks into the shaft on the front gear face. Reassemble the case back together and reinstall the base. Lastly, install the blade. ... Read more
