Adapters and Extensions

If the adapter in the grinding wheel of your bench grinder is worn out, it could cause bad and odd vibrations and cause your grinding wheel to ultimately slip. Replace your adapter to fix this problem.

Nuts

If the grinding wheel on your bench grinder slips, check the nut tightened on the shaft to secure the grinding wheel. If the nut is worn out or stripped, it can cause the slipping symptom. Replace the nut to fix this problem.

Spindles

If the shaft, located where the grinding wheel is positioned, is worn out, then it can cause the grinding wheel in your bench grinder to slip. Replace the shaft, also known as the spindles, to fix this problem. To replace the shaft, remove the hub on both sides to locate it. The shaft should be secured tightly into place. If the shaft is loose, check the bearings – you might need to replace them as well. To remove shaft, push from one end of the grinder using a hammer, until it comes out from the other end. You can now install a new shaft for better results.

Wheels

If the grinding wheel in your bench grinder has an out-of-round bore, it can cause the wheels to slip. To replace the grinding wheel, first, remove the safety guard. Remove the main body of the appliance by unscrewing them. Once you locate the shaft of the grinder, use a wrench to loosen and remove the nut and washer that secures the wheel. Ensure that you replace the new wheel in the same position as the old one. To install the new wheel, slide the wheel to the furthest position and reassemble. Tip: test the wheel by switching the bench grinder on and listening for any unusual movement or sounds.

Collar

f the collar, also known as the flange, is not secured tightly against the grinding wheel, it can cause the grinding wheel to slip. Replace the collar to fix this problem.
