This replacement recoil starter assembly is commonly used with small Honda engines. This is the starter assembly that is used to pull start the unit. It is a complete assembly that includes a plastic shroud/housing, starter pulley, starter spring, grip and the pull rope. Please note the hardware/screws to attach this assembly are sold separately.
Replacing this starter assembly is a simple task that should only require a screwdriver.
• Make sure to disconnect the spark plug
• Remove housing screws
• Separate the old housing from the unit
• Secure the new housing with the screws
• Reattach spark plug and test the equipment

I removed the 2 remaining nuts from the 2 intact bolt studs, which allowed for the removal of the recoil starter assembly.
I used an adjustable wrench to remove the broken bolt stud and used the same wrench to install the new one.
This allowed me to properly install the new recoil starter assembly.
1.Complete starter assembly was shattered. 2. Fuel shutoff was difficult to operate.

Items purchased are plug and play. 3 bolts to remove the starter assembly (Make sure you clean debris from the flywheel.). Petcock involves one #2 Philips head screwdriver and small needle head pliers for the spring, fuel hose clamps (Make sure you clamp the rubber fuel supply line with vice grips or empty the fuel tank first.).

2. Attempted to rethread and rewind the starter rope, when I realized it would not rewind, meaning the spring was broken.
3. Got on the Troy Bilt web site, went outside and found the engine serial number, and found the part for $60 + shipping.
4. Found a bunch of knock off brands with very odd unknown names on Amazon for the needed part.
5. Got on this website, found easily what I needed, bought for $30 + shipping for an original Honda assembly.
6. Order confirmed by email and part arrived 3 days later.
7. Part matched perfectly, replaced the 3 nuts. Pulled rope and engine fired right up.
8. Finished.
