2. Remove a total of 14 screws ?
3. Pry the lower portion of the trimmer apart . This is the grey portion of the handle on my trimmer . This might come apart by using your hands but might require a flat head screwdriver to pry apart

From use the entire slider was worn badly and I could not secure the cap that holds the string in place.
I found that there was no way to lock the shaft that this slider connects to. So I used my needle nose vice grips to lock onto the shaft close to the motor.
Note: I did remove the shield in order to get a better grip with the vice grips.
After that I just screwed on the new slider,placed the string spool in,then locked it in
