Anyway once the housing is off you\'re faced with the starter assembly the only challenge remaining in disassembly is to remove the clutch, which I found can be done with a pair of needle nose pliers opened and inserted into the central notches and turned with a screwdriver against the handles.
The rest is fairly straightforward and the excellent ereplacement videos on dealing with the starter spring and re-tensioning the starter string were invaluable. Just realize the SS26 is a bit more complicated in its assembly than the models used in the videos to illustrate these repairs.
Pull cord would not retract and fuel lines rotted
Joshua from Media, Pennsylvania
I determined the problem was the starter assembly, the spring had broken out from the assembly.
I replaced this making sure to preload the recoil, should have gone an extra turn.
Re assembled.
Replaced fuel tank because it was ... Read more cheaper and easier than replacing just the fuel lines.
The trimmer was free, for 18 bucks it is working great.
the plastic \"Easy Start Assy\" became warped and was binding and wouldn\'t retract. I replaced the spring also because I had it apart for repair and it didn\'t cost much.

2. Inserted the assembly onto the standoff and made sure the spring was engaged.
3. Rotated the assembly (1) revolution before threading the rope thru the hole to preload the spring assy.
4. Attached the pull handle and reassembled the end housing.

Main trick was a clutch removal from the shaft.
I didn\'t realize that a clutch is threaded to the shaft and broke it during removal.
New clutch from this site actually shows an arrow that indicates a direction of rotation for a clutch to be removed. Original clutch didn\'t have that.
Starter rope spool broke apart.
