My Jonsered GTS 2228 string trimmer failed to start again after I stalled it in heavy weeds. The problem didn't seem to have to do with the carburetor, loss of compression, or absence of spark, so I suspected the ignition timing was off due to a broken flywheel keyway. This design has the keyway as part of the flywheel, instead of it being a separate part. Sure enough, that integrated keyway was sheared off of the old flywheel, allowing the flywheel's magnets to become misaligned with the piston, throwing off the ignition timing. This trimmer places the flywheel on the power-take-off side of the engine and the clutch mounts directly to it, too. The flywheel must pass the trimmer's load torque, and this particular design appears to be susceptible to breaking. The new flywheel restored my trimmer to full operation. Lesson learned: This isn't a heavy duty trimmer, so don't abuse it in heavy weeds and/or hit solid objects. Just use it on grass. But the flywheel is relatively inexpensive and the rest of the trimmer is a good design - it's worth fixing.
