This starter pulley assembly is an authentic Echo replacement part manufactured for use with outdoor power equipment. The starter pawls, and springs can wear out from normal use, and replacing the pulley assembly can be less time consuming than replace all the parts individually. The starter pulley assembly is sold individually.
Just like others have said, I removed the spark plug and inserted a piece of rope to hold the piston. I was then able to remove the old starter pawl assembly and replace it with the new one. Easy! ... Read morey why it had become distorted and was failing. Too much leverage during the pull start for one pawl to handle.
Very easy on the Echo GT225 trimmer. Remove 2 torx head screws (#25)from upper cowling cover and then remove the starter rope assembly--5 more #25 torx head screws. Unscrew the starter pulley and replace it with new one and reassemble and done.
1 Removed the necessary parts so that I could remove the rope starter assembly.
2 Screwed on the stripped part that goes on the shaft
3 Replaced the starter rope assembly insuring that the two new parts mashed when the rope
was pulled.
4 Replaced all other Removed parts..

Fins broke off of Flywheel, not sure why,, Maybe age 15 years old, and welsed to itself causing engine it seize up
1. remove engine from trimmer shaft
2. remove all outer housing
3.remove fuel tank
4.carefully remove, starter assembly from crankshaft, and also Clutch assembly, as it is the part that holds the Flywheel on,, \"BOTH ARE RIGHT HAND TREADS\"
5. Remove Flywheel
Note..... Be careful not to strip threads on star

When reattaching the starter assembly and the clutch assembly, do not over tighten, as running the trimmer will keep it tight?
