The starter pawl is used as a connection between the flywheel and the recoil pulley. This item spins when the starter rope is pulled and in turn, the flywheel gets rotates to start the motor. This item is a complete part that includes both springs and both pawls.

Placed short length of small width rope into cylinder to enable removal of Rt. hand thread nut that held starter pawl onto crank shaft.

Starter pawl broke and prented enjgine from turning
1. Removed starter rope housing using metric hex key
2. Removed old starter pawl.
3. Installed new starter pawl.
4. Removed spark plug per video and inserted short length of small rope in cylinder to prevent engine from turning and tightened new pawl. Removed rope and reinstalled spark plug.

6. Wound starter rope on new drum per video and reinstalled starter rope housing on trimmer.
7. Tested rope pull per video.
Removed pull rope , piston in lowest position , pack cylinder with small rope to keep engine from turning . Removed and installed pawl with 3/8 \" impact on lowest setting and lowest air pressure for impact to operate . Reverse procedure to reassemble . Verify repair .
1. After replacing the carb and making adjustments got the engine to run but it would quit.
2. I consulted a Tech at the local lawn and garden shop. He said the coil was cutting in and out.
3. replaced the coil but needed the spacer under the coil and the grommet was needed to replace the one grommet where the spark plug wire

4. While I had things apart I noticed that the starter pawl seemed worn. I replaced the pawl while I was there since I had everything apart.
5. I was able to use the old intake gasket, so I kept the new for a spare
I took the 4 Allen head screw out of the recoil assembly. I removed the pawl assembly with a impact and did the reverse order to put the new parts back on.
1. Removed starter from engine.
2. Replaced starter pawl assembly. (Easy)
3. Removed starter drum and spring from starter assembly.
4. Removed rope from old starter drum.
5. Attached starter rope to new drum.
6. Cursed and fought with spring for at least an hour before ultimately succeeding.
