This is an authentic Echo replacement part manufactured for use with trimmers and brushcutters. The starter rope is coiled around the starter pulley and is used to spin the flywheel to start the engine. This starter rope is sold as an individual replacement part, please see model diagram for associative parts.
I removed the pull starter cover and removed the old pull rope and spring. I inserted the new spring and re-wound the rope and fed it through the cover. I measured the rope length to the point that there was enough tension to fully retract the rope. I aligned the cover and replaced the screws.
Removed starter rope assembly.
Removed starter rope and broken recoil drum.
Attached and rewound coil drum spring.
Returned recoiled drum and spring assembly into housing.
Put starter assembly back onto the chain saw.
Everything except winding up and installing the recoil spring is easy in this repair. The single struggle is winding up the recoil spring into a small diameter coil.
