The plastic deflector connects to the trimmer base assembly and is used to direct grass clippings away from the user. This item is available as an individual replacement part. A hex wrench is needed to install this item.

I removed the bolts took the piece off and put the new piece in place. I then put the bolts back in place. The process was very easy. Most time was spent getting cleanup done afterwards. It would have been nice if manufacture had included new bolts. I did clean the old bolts to ensure they were in good enough condition to reuse.
