Genuine Black and Decker replacement part, this item is sold individually. The 1005959-00 Edge Guide serves a couple of purposes. When pushed down it can be used as a guide to edge your lawn. It can also protect flowers and tress from be hit by the cutting line. If you don't need it just push back up. It connects to the bottom of the housing of the 492239-00 Flex Shaft.
1. Removed the remaining broken piece of the Plastic Guard by unscrewing two small screws with an allen wrench.
2. Replaced new guard.
3. Attached new edge guide. (It easily snapped into place)
4. Attached new cutting blade with screws.

The guard assembly was broken and the edge guide was missing.
1. Removed broken guard assembly by loosening two screws.
2. Installed new guard assembly with the above two screws.
3. Squeezed on the edge guide ends to slip into their slots.
Removed two screws from the old guard and installed the new guard with the screws
Removed the broken lever from the spool housing and pressed the new one in
Installed the edge guide on the base of the trimmer
Removed the old bottom clamp and the spool. Removed the screw from the old spool housing and used a mallet to remove it. Installed the new spool housing, the spool and pressed the bottom cap on.

Needed replacement parts edge guide and guard assembly grass trimmer
