Easy Repair
I let my father borrow my weed eater. When I got it back I realized he had lost the lever. When I used the weed eater the holding mechanism was not holding the string because it was missing the lever. I ordered the lever and in 1 week I was using my weed eater again :)

Pliers used to pull off bad/sheared off lever. Replaced lever with new lever. Easy. Great to be able to replace the part instead of replacing the trimmer. Works like new with replacement lever.

Switch replacement & lever replacement on line spool
Parts arrived in the mail - accuracy of the order was spot on!
Downloaded the parts diagram for the trimmer....on the internet
Removed screws from handle assembly. Took one terminal at a time from the old switch and put it in the same place on the new switch. Put housing back together. I then pulled the defective lever

Both items installed without any problems and the trimmer worked as good as new - saving me the expense of replacing it with a new trimmer.
Remove the cover by pressing on the side tabs and pulling it out. Then remove the spool. Inside the upper housing you will see the lever, take some pliers and pull it out and then just press the new one on. Install the spool in the housing and let some line out. Then place the missing spring on top of the cover and line up the tabs to the

It\'s a simple basic repair. As the lever was lost and the cover had cracked/couldn\'t hold the cover in place. So it was just to insert the new lever and place the spool on and cover and I was finished.
1. Push in tabs to remove cover/end cap
2. Remove old spring off of cover/end cap, then install onto new one.
3. Set cap assembly aside
4. Remove line spool assembly to uncover spool lever
5. With pliers, pull spool lever straight out, discard
6. New spool lever snaps into place by hand

Trimmer line kept un-spooling while using the trimmer
I own the Black & Decker electric trimmer model# ST7700 and after two years of use the trimmer line kept un-spooling, I tried different line even bought a new spool nothing worked, well after some research I found out that the lever was to blame. I bought a new lever, part # 598437-00, installed it and now it works just fine. I do not kno
... Read morew how long the new lever will last so I am planning on getting another one. My advice is if you are replacing this lever, part number # 598437-00 use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove it, turn the trimmer facing the ground to make sure no loose pieces are in the hole, then as you press in the new lever make sure that your hand is straight up and down to avoid setting the lever crooked, once you hear the snap you are done, also once you test the trimmer and it works I would advise you getting another lever, better to have it on hand then waiting for it to come in the mail!

The part broke and did not allow string to come out
Took spool off weed eater. Removed twine from spool and there is a hole where the part snaps in. Very easy to remove if the part is still attached. A screwdriver will snap it right up and you install the new one in same direction. This part regulates how much twine comes out of the trimmer. This type of trimmer does not need bumping
... Read moreto have the twine come out. When the twine does not come out, I discovered that the little part moves back and forth allowing the string to move. This part is in the casement where the spool comes out to restring the twine.
Pushed new lever in place ,, took holder screw out loosened hex screw pulled motor assembly down held onto broken spool with pliers and top part of spool attachment with wrench unscrewed broken part then reassembled with new part in reverse order
