First, get the right replacement cord. The one I ordered from ereplacement parts was perfect, and exact match. This is important because the connection you make to the switch unit, and the lengths of the insulated portion and free-wire portion need to be correct, or else it wont align with the screw-down strain relief.

... Read more than that, you simply lay the unit on its side and remove a whole bunch of screws. keep them in a pan so you don\'t lose any of them. Fortunately they are all the same size. Pay attention to how the extension rod from the motor housing to the trimmer spool lays in place when you disassemble, so you can re-assemble it the same way. It helps to have a second person holding the unit together until you get a few screws in at that end.
