Missing Line Feed Lever

Refer to parts diagram/list http://www.ereplacementparts.com/black-and-decker-gh1000-type-grass-hog-trimmeredger-parts-c-4167_9518_9532.html

1. Remove the spool housing cap (figure 21, part of the Outer Housing and Cap Upgrade Kit 90540850).
2. Remove the line spool (figure 20, Replacement Spool DF-080; this item is o ut of sequence at the bottom of the parts list).
3. Locate the line feed lever (figure 18, Lever 479751-00S) in the spool housing (figure 16, Spool Housing 90529876) and check that it moves freely.
5. If the lever does not move freely, or is not held in place, or is missing, remove the spool housing and check for debris.
6. Remove the spool housing screw (figure 19, Blade Bolt 371954-01, a 10-32 NF x 19/32\" [20 mm] pan-head T25 torx / 1/4\" slotted screw).
7. The spool housing pulls straight off the drive head at the end of the flex shaft, but the fit is very tight. Several methods may be used to remove it:
a. Gently wiggle the housing off of the flex shaft drive head (figure 13, Flex Shaft; the drive head is just visible protruding from the housing).
b. Use two small pry bars, with equal pressure, on opposites sides of the spool housing bottom, and lever against the flex shaft housing (figure 13).
c. Warm the spool housing, in the sun or with hot towels or hot water, and use methods a and b as needed.
d. Insert and bottom-out a 10-32 NF x 2-1/8\" screw in the flex shaft drive head screw hole, hold the spool housing firmly, and tap the screw head
lightly with a hammer to separate the spool housing from the flex shaft drive head.
8. Once the spool housing is removed from the flex shaft housing and drive head, check for debris. You may find pieces of the line feed lever pivot
arm barbs, which can be seen protruding from the bottom of the spool housing (figure 16). You may find pieces of vegetation or other debris
which may have contributed to the destruction of the line feed lever pivot arm barbs.
9. After removing any debris and thoroughly cleaning both housings with a stiff brush, install a new lever, if needed. Reinstall the spool housing.
10. The fit between the flex shaft drive head and the spool housing is very tight. Four wide lobes, at the base of the drive head, must be aligned with
indentations on the spool housing. The lobes have very sharp edges; the tight fit and rotating shaft make re installation a challenge. The following
tips may help in the attempt to reinstall the spool housing:
a. Lubricate the flex shaft drive head and the spool housing.
b. Cool the flex shaft drive head, with liquid air (from an upside-down can of blow-off), and warm the spool housing.
c. Ease the three sharp edges, of each of the 4 lobes at the base of the flex shaft drive head, with a rotary tool and a small abrasive wheel.
d. Combinations of all the above.
11. Reinstall the spool housing screw, a loaded line spool and the spool housing cap.

Difficulty Level:
Easy
Total Repair Time:
Less than 15 mins
Tools:
Screw drivers
Parts Used:
479751-00S
Removed line spool by unscrewing central screw and pulling off spool, then popped out lever by prying under it with a long screwdriver. Popped in replacement lever, and replaced spool and screw.
Lever was a little harder to pop put than I anticipated, and I could see no visible difference between the old and new levers, but the weed eater is now feeding line at the appropriate rate.
