I have a B&D Trimmer GH1000 Type 4 and GH1100 Type 1. Is the plastic Guard Assembly interchangeable on these two models? Thank you.

Hello Jim, Thank you for the question. The Part Number:478535-00 is the Guard for the Type 4 and Part Number:478536-00 is for Type 1. The Types have different Guards. We hope this helps!

I swapped out the old guard for the new guard with cutter blade included. But I also ordered a couple additional blades so I can attempt a repair on the old guard and install a blade to have a back up guard for spare. Simple fix, and very glad to keep my GrassHog XP running good as new for a while longer.

1. Removed old guard by removing two screws on top of the assembly with a small Allen wrench, putting the screws in a safe place, and lifting out the guard by wiggling it around a bit.

2. Inserted new guard, replaced and tightened screws, and did yard work.

The hardest part was finding the correct sized anchor wrench. We finally used a very small \"star\" wrench. Most of our place has been left natural, so every spring, the trimmer really gets a work out. This year was no exception and is the second time we have had to replace the guard. Fortunately the trimmer motor stays in good shape.
