Sanded and taped off area then used Epoxy to secure Knob to shifting rod.

This was quite simple; I have never had a problem with my rototiller. Unfortunately, the knob was always loose, it was not threaded on or affixed to the control shaft in any way. It slid on the shaft with no resistance. I was always going to fix it, but after apx. 17 years I did not do a repair. While tilling my garden, the knob was lost Perhaps it will turn up, when I looked for a replacement I learned that the knob was not sold by itself. Not wanting to buy the whole control assembly, and seeing that my machine was a year or two older than parts for it were listed I took a chance and ordered the same knob for the troy-built that was listed. The knob was the same, so I ordered another one (you never know). The fix will be easy; I intend to wrap the control shaft with plumbers teflon tape or black electrical tape. The tolerance is minimal, just be sure not to over wrap it you could split the knob. Well hope this can help someone.
