1. Loosen and removed drag but from the too of the rail located above the spool.
2. Removed spool and set aside.
3. Remove handle and cap nut from the opposing side from where your handle was located on the lower end of the reel.

5. Once inside the casing locate the shaft and follow it down from the top of the housing down to the bottom of the reel. Where you will find two screws that secure the main shaft to the gears that allow the main shaft to operate in unison with the main pinion gear. The pinion gear is the brass gear the main shaft slides through and allows the shaft to move in the up in down motion.
6. Once the screws are removed it should free the shaft from the guiding gear and allow you to remove it. In some cases you have to take the gear out to remove the shaft.
7. Reel this backwards until the shaft and reel is in operating condition.
8. Buy more from e replacements at an effective cost and be happy.
