The repair was simple just thread the cable from the gear selector to the transmission and replace the quick clip with the pliers. Start the snowblower and shift through all gears and make adjustments if necessary.
I moved the speed lever to full forward speed position and pulled the new cable through the lever hole provided for the purpose. I removed the lower adjustment bolt in the speed control arm. I pulled the attachment bracket up and away from its original position so that I could insert the lower cable fitting in one of the center hole provi
... Read moreded. I pushed the bracket back down, almost as far as it can go and reinstalled and tightened the bolt.

installed lower cable end in cable adjustment bracket
adjusted cable as per owners manual
tested unit, works perfectly
have approximately 3 hours snowblowing time since relaced cable, no problems
