1) I removed the old handle.
2) I unhooked the right-side handle bar so I could slide the new control into place
3) I re-attached the handle securely
4) I connected the control line to the handle.
5) I replaced the tension spring

It is important to take the time to remove the handle. Unless you do this first you cannot thread the spindle to its fulcrum. The rest is a piece of cake. It helps to have good lighting and have the unit in the repair position; stand it on its front end.
