This is a glass lid with a black handle in the middle. This lid is removed by simply lifting it up by the handle. It gets placed on top of the stoneware to efficiently bring the unit up to temperature, maintain the heat needed to cook the ingredients in the dish, and to prevent splashing. It can be washed either by hand or in the dishwasher. If the lid is showing any scratches or dents, it may need to be replaced with this OEM lid.
