I removed the old one and put the new one on. Very easy to do. it works perfectly. Biggest problem was finding one, as the item has been discontinued by Ryobi. I really liked my saw and did not want to get a new one just because the laser guide stopped working. Cost wise it probably wasn\'t the best idea ,but I believe my current saw is a
