A cylinder base gasket that is damaged could allow dirt and debris into the engine. A gasket should be replaced whenever a part that they seal is removed. Reusing a gasket runs the high probability that it won't reseal properly. Not only could a damaged gasket let dirt reach the engine, but it could also let extra air in, which can cause the engine to run lean and lead to serious engine damage. For this repair, you will first remove the top cover of the chainsaw. Then remove the air filter cover, air filter, and the air filter base. Now remove the throttle linkage (pull the trigger to access it), remove the choke lever, fuel lines, carburetor, and then remove the carburetor gasket. Line up the new cylinder gasket onto the assembly before installing it. "
