"The armature is fundamental part of your table saws motor. The armature consists of windings, the commutator, a cooling fan, the drive shaft, and the shaft bearings. The armature and field create an electromagnetic field that initiates the armature to turn. The carbon brushes transfer electricity to the armature through the commutator. Eventually, the commutator will become worn due to this continuous contact. If the tool is overloaded, the armature can overheat and create a short circuit. This will create extreme sparking from the motor brushes, and possibly smoke and a burning smell coming from the motor.
