The tough part for this repair was figuring out what part wasn\'t working right. Initially I thought it was the flexible plastic \"brake\" that wasn\'t making enough contact to prevent the spinning, but it turned out that the bearing under that wasn\'t spinning freely enough. When this happens, the \"grab\" from the bearing results in the disk spinning rather than the disk moving top/bottom/left/right around in a small circle without much spinning. If you take the pad off and watch how everything moves with the bearing and the brake, the intended action makes more sense. So I recommend replacing both the bearing and the bearing box at the same time. Here\'s how the repair went:

1) Parts: I recommend buying a new bearing and a bearing box as getting the bearing out of the old box without damaging it is tough and the bearing box is a pretty cheap part.
2) Remove the three screws for the pad of the sander. Set these aside with the pad.
3) Remove the two screws for the base of the sander body and then set these aside with the two halves of the base.
4) Take the flexible plastic brake off and set it aside.
5) Remove the screw and washer holding the bearing box and bearing on the drive shaft.
6) Replace the bearing and/or bearing box
7) Go backwards through steps 5 -> 2 to reassemble the sander. (Be sure you seat the brake so that the rubber nubs sticking up around the edge are inset into the base of the sander as you put that back on)
