1. Disassembled the tool and found a broken brush spring and worn brushes.
2. Tested the switch with an ohmmeter to ensure it was OK.
3. Ordered a replacement brush holder assembly, which includes new springs and brushes.
4. Cleaned all internal parts and the inside of the case. Used zero residue contact cleaner for the commutator (cleaning took the most time as the tool was very dirty inside from years of use).
5. Installed the new brush holder assembly. It plugs into the motor like a cartridge.
6. Reassembled the tool.
7. Tested the tool-- works great!

Remove housing screws, cut data decal, separate half\'s. don\'t loose spring for blade removal lock pin. pay close attention to wire positioning ( take photo ) remove armature, pry brush block assy away armature housing, dust and clean. unplug V-speed switch ( if changing ). Assembly is reverse. once the new brush block is in position and armature assy has been installed you must release the brush blocks so that they press against the rotor of the armature by positioning the small spring over the back side of the brush for each brush ( it loos like a small pin off to the side of the rear end of the brush holder) using a small blade screw driver pop it over to the center of the rear of the brush. Once you start to move it from its assembly position it will move on its own and automatically center. Assemble other half of housing and take care not to over tighten the screws, tighten them just beyond snug but don\'t torque them to much.

Broken brush tension spring was the culprit. Replaced the whole assembly anyways and saved the old brushes for backups, they were still in decent shape.

My Bosch Rotozip RZ20 stopped working one day, figured it was most likely the brushes.
Use a razor blad to cut the labels on the top and underside of the unit. Use the required bit in your screwdriver to remove all 6 screws and then separate the two parts of the main body. Replacing the brush assembly is easy and strait forward f rom this part on.
My Rotozip worked flawlessly after the replacement.

After a bit of troubleshooting, I discovered a broken motor brush spring was the reason my RotoZip tool stopped working. I ordered a brush assembly from eReplacement Parts and replaced the assembly for a whole lot less than the cost of a new RotoZip. The most time-consuming part of the repair was cleaning the commutator. I figured if I w as going to fix it I might as well do it right. Some YouTube videos helped. It sounds harder than it was and my RotoZip works great once again.

Replaced brush with holder. I did damage an electrical terminal end while trying to reassemble. You must pay close attention to the wire routing, not ANY extra space inside.

Original brushes were over worn. Spring no long kept them in contact with armature. Replaced brush assembly and was back in business. Great part. Fit perfectly.
