The depth adjustment ring on the router was loose.

1. Removed the router motor from the base.
2. Pull off the depth adjustment ring.
3. Place the spring by thirds in the depth adjustment ring. The springs should sit in the grooves.
4. Next place the depth adjustment ring on the base and snap on.
*** A little trick I found, is if you tighten the screw on the base o f the router, it will make getting the depth adjustment ring on the base of the router a little easier.
*** Another bonus was the video on YouTube was great. I had an old Rockwell router, but found that the video on the Porter Cable 690 router was basically the same. I did a little research and found out Rockwell was bought out by Porter Cable, so the models were similar in design, so the repair was easy.

Went to YouTube and searched replacing depth adjustment ring on Porter Cable 690. Video had clear and precise instructions. Only took a few minutes to install the 3 springs and ring. New ring works great.
