This 1/4" collet is an authentic Hitachi replacement part designed for use with their routers. A collet is a sleeve that holds a router bit in a tool. If the tool is not cleaned regularly, the resin build up will cause the collet to grip inconsistently on the tool shank. By not applying equal pressure throughout the entire gripping range of the collet, the tool holder allows the tool to resonate inside, causing slippage inside the collet. Please note, this collet is for using bits with 1/4" arbors only. Replacing a collet is a simple task that should only take a few minutes, You will need a wrench to complete this repair. • Make sure the tool is unplugged • Remove the collet nut • Then remove the old collet • Secure the new collet in place • Tighten the collet nut
