This is a genuine manufacturer-approved component which is specially designed for use with DeWALT and Black and Decker routers. The collet nut allows a user to secure a 1/2" collet which is sold separately. Please make sure to refer to the owners manual for the correct application of this hardware. I installed the new nut and installed a bit and the router worked again.
I ordered two nuts just in case there was an engineering design flaw in the original so I would have a spare in case this happens again.

Knobs and collet nut missing on used router I purchased
Used a phillips screwdriver to attach the knobs to the lower housing. To install the collet nut I pressed in on the spindle lock and threaded the collet nut on the spindle.
This collet and nut are compatible with this very old and discontinued router. IGÇÖm very happy to find one that fits as many many other purchases before this resulted in failure.
