Product Description
?This OEM socket-outer is specifically designed for use with Echo handheld pruners. It connects to the drive shaft, enabling rotation of the trimmer head. Made from durable plastic, this high-quality component is sold individually and should be replaced if it becomes worn, cracked, or damaged over time. The inner socket is sold separately. Replacing the socket-outer is a straightforward process that typically requires only a screwdriver and a wrench to disassemble and reassemble the main pipe housing the drive shaft. For proper installation and application, refer to your model’s owner’s manual and diagrams.

2. Loosen clamp assembly holding orange lower tube and upper black extention. Loosen set screw and remember direction which is down.
3. Pull black extention out of orange tune.
4. Inner shaft was bent along with outer upper tube. So, both had to be r ... Read more eplaced.
5. Clean lower shaft that is exposed and reapply lithium grease.
6. Slide new inner drive shaft over lower drive shaft and leave about 12 inches exposed.
7. Slide new black extention tube into orange tube making sure hole on tube near cutter end is facing downward as this is
where the set screw reattaches with about 12 inches left out.. Place clamp that holds orange and black tube onto bottom of black tube where cutter head attaches and slide up to orange tube. This clamp must pass over the first stop rivet at the bottom. Use a screw driver to lightly pry apart clamp and gently push over this rivet. Push up clamp until it attaches to the orange pole. This clamp does not slide over the rivet closest to the bearing end already inserted. That rivet is the stop for when using extention and prevents from sliding extention out completely when extending. Slide over one rivet only. Tighten clamp at this time and make sure the extention works properly. Attach upper extention and drive to cutter head and tighten clamp.
8. Repair is complete. A very good video is on YouTube that explains what I just described.
9. I had some confusion on replacing the inner and outer sprockets. Just place some lithium grease in upper spline and slide in inner sproket followed by outer sproket. Did not make sense why the sprockets were just not one piece but no one could explain at Echo why.
Good luck and worked out on first try for me. I would recommend checking the chain sproket and buy a couple to save on shipping later as you will certainly need one replaced at some point.
Also make sure to order the parts for the correct series which is located on the saw. Mine started with 042 which is what was needed because Echo has three models of the PPT-266
Plastic tip in drive shaft stripped.
