Destroyed the drive belt, by re-starting planer while it was engaged with wood...DON\'T DO THAT!

Remove right side panel, two small screws and plastic panel slides down and out.
Very simple, once one understands that the housing is not a single unit. It really looks like the housing
is all metal but it has two side panels. Once the right panel is removed it is as simple as easing
the belt onto the two spindles. S lowly mate each ridge on belt with corresponding grooves in spindles.
There are no tensioners or need to move center-to-center distance on spindles.
In the time it took you to read this, you\'ll have it done!

replace a damaged planer belt on a 12\" portable planer

After finding several YouTube videos regarding generic 12\" planers and without finding a successful demonstration of the procedure, I realized that the way to mount the belt was to just muscle it on.

This particular planer, an older Jet portable, has the lifting screw mounted quite close to the installed belt. This screw is in the way of the belt passing on to the spindle pulley. After the belt was mounted on the smaller motor pulley the belt was placed on the knife spindle and muscled on by turning the spindle pulley with great difficulty.

planer drive belt

The belt was extremely difficult to \"thread\" on the drive wheels. It took two of us (four hands) to get the thing on. I understand it is new and has to be stiff. But I nicked an edge of the belt using a flat head screwdriver trying to get it around both drive wheels! AND I WAS BEING EXTREMELY CAREFUL TO NOT DO JUST THAT!!
