This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer. The shaft and gear are designed for use in DeWALT planers. This part is made of metal, and is placed in the gear box to provide power to the cutter head. You may require a wrench and pliers when replacing this part. This item is sold individually.
1. Took cover off on the side.
2. Used Snap-ring piers took snap rings off drive sprockets removed spring tensioner
3. Took feed shaft drive gears and chain off.
4. Loosen and removed Allen screws for drive high low transmission
5. Pulled transmission out partially and swung it out of the way.

7. Cleaned up threads and put medium lock tight on threads and tighten it.
8. Pack it with more grease and put back together in reverse order.
Removed side cover, removed gear box to verify the problem, which was stripped threads. I unfortunately took the gearbox apart firstGÇönot needed. Cleaned out the cutter head internal threads with a metric tap and solvent flush. Inserted new gear/shaft with blue loc tite, replaced the gear box, which requires a circlip tool, cover back on
... Read more. Wait heGÇÖd see real hours for loc tite to cure. This is the second time IGÇÖve had to replace this part; last time the shaft broke and I had to get a machine shop to remove the piece. ItGÇÖs s narrow shaft and breaks or strips easily. Thus planer canGÇÖt handle high work loads
