Planer head broke because a guide rod rusted. Planer head had to be disassembled to replace. It took days to fix because the planer blade screws were also seized up and had to be hammered off. After that it was a pretty standard disassembly...

Took off external covers and tried to loosen cutter head collars with liquid wrench and fine emery cloth. while attempting to move head while tapping gently on guide collars, and while applying pressure with the adjustment handle, head cracked.
New head was ordered from eReplacement. We then used the diagrams provided online and beg an the process of taking the head assembly apart.
Several screws with Phillips heads were stripped and had to be drilled out.We left the threaded portions in the old head and purchased new screws with allen heads to replace them in the new head. Cleaned the adjustment rods with fine emery cloth and removed all visible corrosion. Applied long lasting aluminum lubricant to guides.
New head arrived four days after order was placed and in about two hours we were able to complete reassembly.
The diagrams were incredibly helpful
The next day I planed 200 linear feet of 2x2 cypress rails on all four sides and about 80 linear feet of 2x4 cypress on all four sides without a problem.
Thanks to eReplacement, I was able to rebuild my planer for less than $150.00 rather than buy a new one for over $500.00
