Remove allen bolt holding the pad plate to the sander, there are four torx bit screws holding another piece on under the pad, you also need to remove the upper cover on the sander that houses the brushes, the remove four screws that hold the lower section of the sander from the top by getting the screw driver (torques bit) in at an angle

Read moreand remove the screws, then the fan assembly slides out of the sander, you can hold the armature with one hand and the fan with other and twist as I remember its left hand thread screw on the new fan slide it back into the sander body put the brushes in and reverse the rest of the repair. it works as new again.
