Most online advice for a firing pin that does not retract indicates that it could be a bent firing pin, o-ring around the cylinder, or plugged holes in the cylinder under that o-ring.

I couldn\'t see anything particularly wrong with any of that but did see my firing valve washer was cracked and chipped. Since the parts are in expensive, I ordered all the o-rings for the nailer and a new firing valve washer. Replacing all that did not solve my problem.

Finally, I started disassembling other parts of the nailer to look for trouble. Trigger valve appeared to be ok. I took apart the exhaust cap and there was my problem! Tiny pieces of that deteriorated firing valve washer had clogged the exhaust ports, restricting exhaust air flow. Blowing all of that out completely solved my issue. These pieces could not be seen until I took apart the exhaust (essentially to the point where you can see the muffler mesh).

My nailer is about 12 years old but only gets occasional household use. I figured my problem was dried o-rings but I was wrong. Hope this helps anyone else with this issue.
