It is made out of metal and goes inside the head cover set. If this item breaks it will need to be replaced. An allen wrench plus a screwdriver may be needed to help install the crank housing. This item is available as an individual replacement part.

Thought I could just unbolt 1 part and bolt on new complete housing. Had to remove bearing assembly from existing housing and install in so called complete crank housing.
