This is a genuine manufacturer-sourced replacement part which is specially designed for Makita compound miter saws. The purpose of this torsion spring is to apply tension on the guard allowing it to retract. If the hardware is worn or damaged, this will provide an identical replacement for the original component that was installed on a new unit. A screwdriver will be needed to remove and resecure the guard hardware when replacing this torsion spring.
