This oil seal forms a seal between the crankcase and crankshaft. They protect the crankshaft bearings from dirt and other grime. If there is leaking coming from the seal due to it being worn or broken, it will need to be replaced right away. It should also be replaced any time it is being removed from the crankshaft to perform other repairs or maintenance on the engine. This is an OEM part that is sold separately.
